The Axent RXD1 was the first commercially available downlight to use a multi-chip LED light source. Unlike conventional high-output LEDs, this technology incorporates multiple LEDs in a single package, giving increased light output in a smaller space and a wider spread of light.
Now equipped with a latest-generation multi-chip light source, the RXD1 offers an even more efficient alternative to traditional compact fluorescent lighting. Moreover, the downlight delivers major energy savings without compromising on light levels or quality of light. In a typical hotel corridor, for example, a lighting scheme using the RXD1 would produce 222 lux and a uniformity of 0.76 compared with 196 lux and 0.71 from the same quantity of 2 x 26W compact fluorescent downlights.

Cooper Lighting has reduced the power consumption of its pioneering Axent RXD1 LED downlight to just 25W, resulting in an energy saving of 56% when compared with equivalent 2 x 26W CFL downlights, which are still in widespread use.

The RXD1 achieves an efficacy of up to 61 lumens per circuit watt, which easily exceeds the Building Regulations requirement of 45 lumens per circuit watt for commercial lighting (Part L2) as well as the lower requirement of 40 lumens per circuit watt for residential lighting (Part L1).
Effective thermal management is provided by proven pure-water heat-pipe cooling technology, which transfers heat away from the back of the LED source to the cooling fins. This advanced method eliminates the need for large, heavy heat sinks and helps the RXD1 downlight to achieve a maintenance-free life of 50,000 hours.

With a body height of only 86mm, this compact and lightweight fitting is available in round or square models with white, silver or chrome bezels or trimless. It provides a choice of 2900K warm white or 5000K cool white illumination, and all versions can be specified with integral emergency-lighting functionality.
