According to a report by government-owned Jamaica Information Services the country’s public service agency will be replacing 200 High Pressure Sodium (HPS) streetlights with LEDs.

JPS is partnering with the Caribbean Maritime Institute (CMI), to replace 200 streetlights along the Palisadoes Road in Kingston with light emitting diode (LED) technology.

The JMD 5.17 million (US $45,900) project, which will involve retrofitting the existing High Pressure Sodium (HPS) lamps, is the first phase of an energy efficiency programme being undertaken in the area

It follows the successful completion of a pilot, which resulted in the installation of 30 retrofitted LED streetlights along the Palisadoes roadway.
