Everlight and Epistar’s combined market value in the next two years will overtake Nichia’s current ranking as world number one, a CNA report cited Everlight Chairman Robert Yeh saying.

The Chairman has made similar remarks prior to the recent speech at a charity event in Taiwan. Back in March this year, Yeh noted together with Epistar, the two companies total output value could overtake Nichia’s world number one ranking. The two Taiwanese LED manufacturers combined revenue amounted to NT $46.94 billion (US $1.57 billion) in 2013, placing them in second place globally. The next step for Epistar, which has R&D and innovative capacity, is to challenge Nichia’s number one ranking. At the time Yeh did not set a time table for the two company’s global rankings, since he believed Nicha would also grow considerably.

His recent comment is based on Taiwanese and Chinese LED manufacturers’ revenue performances in 2Q14. According to recent statistics, Epistar set new quarterly revenue records, as consolidated revenue for 2Q14 increased 30.2 percent Quarter-on-Quarter to NT $8.13 billion. Everlight too set new records that quarter with consolidated revenue peaking to NT$ 7.69 billion.

Yeh’s confidence that the Epistar and Everlight will achieve their goal of becoming world number one together in the next two years was boosted with Epistar and Everlight consolidated revenue setting new records, and Epistar and FOREPI’s technologies complimentary after the merge.

He was also upbeat about  Epistar and FOREPI’s recent merge in late June, noting the acquisition could strengthen Taiwan’s upstream LED industry and propel the country’s global rankings in the LED industry. He also emphasized Taiwan’s LED industry will continue to advance through restructures involving mergers and acquisitions.

Additionally, Yeh outlined operations in second half of 2014 indicating there will be larger production expansions and estimated expansions will start from June 2014 till September 2014. The LED industry's LED lighting, backlight, and invisible lighting products have all rebounded. Everlight has completed expansions during 2Q14, which is expected to add 25 percent production capacity to bring 3Q14 LED monthly production to 4.0 billion PCS.
